Maintaining your Wig & Hairpiece- The preferred techniques, products, and methods of maintaining your human hair or synthetic hairpiece or wig.
CARING FOR YOUR HUMAN HAIR WIG OR HAIRPIECE
Our Human Hair Products are designed for long term use. If you do not treat your hairpiece in the proper educated manner (Using the wrong products or procedures) you will drastically reduce the life expectancy of your hairpiece or wig.
We strongly recommend using Look of Love\'s specially formulated Duo-set products for chemically treated Human Hair : To ensure that your wig, hairpieces or extensions get the longevity they are designed for, we recommend using a shampoo and conditioner for color treated hair at regular intervals, based on wear.
CLEANING
1. In a bowl or basin, mix 1 to 2 oz of shampoo to 1 to 2 quarts of cool water. Submerge wig or hairpiece and allow to soak for 5 minutes. After soaking it may be helpful to place a small amount of shampoo in the palm of your hair and work it through the hair from the root to the ends for extra cleaning.
2. Remove hairpiece and rinse with cool water until all shampoo has been removed. Never use hot water as it can strip the color. Always try to keep water flowing through the hair in a downward direction from the base to ends. Avoid pushing hairpiece or wig up & down in the water. This will help to eliminate tangling or backtracking through the base.
3. After squeezing out excess water, spray hairpiece with Leave-In Human Hair Conditioner and Detangler.
4. While hairpiece is damp, you can set and style as needed. Always comb through the hair starting from the ends and working your way up to the root base.
Repeat steps 1 to 4 as needed. DO NOT BRUSH OR COMB HAIR PIECE WHILE IT IS STILL WET AS THE MOISTURE EXPANDS AND LOOSENS THE HAND TIED KNOTS AND DRAMATIC HAIRLOSS MAY OCCUR.

Human Hair vs. Synthetic'
The general differences, benefits and characteristics of 100% Human hair , Synthetic Fibers, and Human/Fiber blended hair.
Is the hair used really 100% Human Hair?
'YES! Look of Love uses 100% Human Hair from India, selected for it\'s soft european-like texture. There are many types of hair used in the hairgoods industry. Some of which are from China, which is more readily available and has a rounder, thicker cuticle. This type of hair has a tendency to frizz and tangle is more coarse to the touch.
India hair is more elliptical in the cuticle allowing the hair to lay flatter and is softer to the touch. Because many of our wigs and hairpieces are hand tied, having a more flexible strand of hair allows for tighter knots in the hand crocheting process.
Can I have a custom wig made from my own hair?
We are very sorry to hear of your situation, however we do not provide this type of service. Although we do make custom made wigs unfortunately we do not make them from an individual\'s own hair.
This particular type of service is very expensive because all of our wigs and hairpieces are made at our factory in China. Therefore to ship your hair to them for one custom made wig and then to have them ship it back to the USA is very costly and would inflate the price of the actual wig.
The other factor is the treatment for the hair itself. All human hair that is intended for wigs and hairpieces has to be chemically treated and re-dyed before it can be used. This process would also be very costly for a small amount of hair. (The human hair our factory uses is 100% human hair from India that is purchased in 100 lb bundles).
You can donate your hair through several organizations such as Locks of Love and Wigs for kids.
Do you accept donations of hair?
'We are sorry to have to tell you that we do not accept donations of hair. Unfortunately you have us mistaken with a company called Locks of Love. They are a non profit organization that accepts donations to make wigs for children suffering from medical related illness or incidents.

What is the difference in content?
Human hair is porous in structure and is able to absorb moisture and other conditioners through its cuticle. Plus, human hair is somewhat elastic.
Synthetic Fibers are a sealed strand of hair that is incapable of absorbing anything. You can only affect fiber by treating or coating the outside of the strand. our Synthetic Fibers are made from a blend of Kanekalon, and have a very natural appearance and texture.
Can I use Heat or Hot implements?
Human Hair - Can be curled using hot irons and rollers. Can be crimped or straightened for any styling option, just like your own hair.
Synthetic Fibers - High heat can be damaging. We recommend steam only for setting curl patterns. In some case wetting with hot water and allowing to dry can set a desired curl with roller sets.
** Caution: Heat from ovens and stoves may cause the fibers to crimp.
Can I color my hairpiece or wig?
Human hair has been bleached through extreme chemical processing, therefore leaving the cuticles damaged that prevents any other bleaching to occur. You can however darken your human hair with non-peroxide based colored rinses.
Because synthetic fiber has no pours it is virtually impossible to color. Make sure to read the hang tag inside your wig or hairpiece to see if it is a human/Fiber Blend. Only the human hair will be colored leaving an inconsistent coloring.
HOW DO YOU COLOR HUMAN HAIR?
There are some very important factors to always keep in mind when working on previously chemically processed human hair. As you can imagine, the human hair we purchase to use in our hair goods is from the country of India, where all woman have very dark brown hair. This hair is chemically processed to remove the dark hair color and then re-colored to the various different colors that we offer. This process damages the hair and the cuticle is all but removed, but there is no other possible way to make so many hair colors. Also the lighter the hair color, the more damaged it becomes. Our human hair is not virgin hair, but highly stripped out hair with no cuticle left on it.
It is important to note that Peroxide could damage the threads used in holding the hair together. Whenever salons call for advice we recommend to use only non-peroxide hair coloring. Also, new colors desired should never be too much different than the original color. Color mousse is one of the easiest and safest types of hair coloring to use as they contain no harsh chemicals that would cause any further damage to the hair.
For a good life expectancy of your hair piece,it is important to use Human hair conditioners each time you wash the hairpiece . Sometimes when some one asks about coloring a hairpiece we never quite know what kinds of color they may intend to use; color rinses, color mousse, semi permanent, or etc., or do they intend to darken or lighten; It is a wide open phrase. We sell many human hair pieces to hair salons and individuals who have had no troubles with our human hair products when re-styling, perming, rinsing, and etc. if done knowing you are dealing with chemically pre-processed human hair.

Human hair is human hair right?...not so!!!!!
Sometimes one hairpiece or wig may not match (exactly) the feel, texture, or natural wave pattern of one that you have owned before. Because human hair is not a mechanically controled manufactured product (such as synthetic fiber hair), human hair varies tremendously from the thickness of the hair strands (meaning thicker or thinner denier hair strands) to straight, wavy, or curly.
Every person has certain differences within their hair. Not only that but has the hair been treated with hair color or permanent wave chemicals prior to being used for making a wig or hairpiece?
Also, the longer the human hair lengths, the more costly; the closest to original virgin human hair the hair is, the more expensive and valuable. There is alot to take into consideration when purchasing a human hair products for ones self. (e.g.) Ask around and try to find out if you can buy a naturally grey silver shade of human hair; you might be shocked as to how much it will cost just to buy the hair itself no less having it made into a wig or piece; it is almost an impossible product to buy!
Because of all the above variations in human hair being used to make wigs and hairpieces, it is important to remember that a reasonable quality control of techniques used in it\'s processing is very very crucially important. When viewing any colors online through any website please be aware that the colors are only to give an idea as to the color looks like. Colors will differ from one monitor to another depending on the resolution of the monitor as well as the Internet browser you use to view the website.
